CADILLAC ANNOUNCES THE NAME FOR ITS UPCOMING FLAGSHIP

Set to launch in late 2015, the upcoming Cadillac flagship sedan has some great expectations. It will face off directly against the also upcoming redesigned BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Both will be tough to beat, but Cadillac is convinced it’s up to the challenge. Previously rumored to be called the LTS, the luxury American carmaker has just put that rumor to rest for good. In an official press release, Cadillac has announced its new flagship sedan’s name: CT6.According to Cadillac, "the CT6 will expand the Cadillac range upwards – meaning it will not replace any current product." But that’s not the biggest news here. Newly hired CEO Johan de Nysschen is changing Cadillac’s entire naming structure for all of its models, much like he did at previous employer Infiniti. Basically, "CT" will be used to designate every model, with the number indicating the relative size and position of the model within the lineup. For example, the CTS could become the CT4, and the ATS the CT2, though neither name is confirmed yet, but both would make complete sense. No word yet whether the Escalade SUV will also be renamed.

Cadillac further points out that the name changes "will be an evolutionary process," meaning it will "only change a product’s name when the product itself is redesigned or an all-new model is created, as in this instance." So there you have it. Cadillac’s new flagship not only has a name, but the entire New York City-based brand will be adopting Audi and BMW-like model nomenclature.
