Months of speculation have finally come to an end. The official EPA fuel economy ratings for the all-new, aluminum rich, 2015 Ford F-150 have just been published. Like always, these are the maximum numbers possible, so you'll have to drive the way the EPA did. If so, then a turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood of a standard-cab two-wheel drive F-150 will return 19/26 mpg city/highway and a 22 mpg overall rating. That’s the best fuel economy for any gasoline-powered full-size pickup on the market today.If you opt for four-wheel drive, then those fuel numbers drop to 18/23 mpg city/highway and an average 20 mpg. The 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 returns 18/25 mpg and a combined 20 mpg. Adding 4WD drops those numbers by one each. The 5.0-liter V8 returns 15/22 mpg and 18 mpg combined. Again, 4WD reduces those numbers by one mpg. Last up is the most powerful F-150 engine offered: the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It returns 17/24 mpg and 20 average. 4WD drops those numbers by one digit.But here’s the thing: Ford can only claim its new F-150 is the "most efficient gasoline-powered full-size pickup."
