CHRYSLER RECALLS SRT VIPERS OVER AIRBAG ISSUE

A Viper recall isn’t something you hear about often, but when it happens people take notice. Chrysler has just issued an official recall for a total of 1,912 2013-2014 SRT Vipers because of a potentially defective airbag sensor. More specifically, Chrysler discovered that airbags on some Vipers may deploy less vigorously than intended because the sensor could determine a seat is positioned closer to the airbag than it really is.The recall affects Vipers built between November 28, 2012 and June 26, 2014.All told, 1,624 of those Vipers are located in the US, 201 in Canada, 16 in Mexico, and 71 in other countries. Fortunately, there have no reports of related injuries or accidents but Chrysler isn’t taking any chances. The fix involves dealers installing a metal shim on the detection plate to correct the sensor accuracy. Owners are being contacted by Chrysler and the repairs will be done free of charge.
