IGNITION DRAMA ONCE AGAIN; CHRYSLER RECALLS 350,000 CARS
Here we are again, another ignition switch recall that should never have happened. Only this time it doesn't involve General Motors, but Chrysler. The recall deals with select Chrysler models made in 2008 but before May 12, 2008. Models affected are the 2008 Dodge Charger sedan, Dodge Magnum station wagon, Chrysler 300 sedan, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. All affected customers will be notified in order to schedule a service appointment to fix the issue, obviously free of charge. In the interim, owners of these models are advised to confirm their ignition keys are set in the "ON" position (one o'clock) after starting their vehicles and to detach the key from key chains to eliminate any excess weight pulling on the key while engaged in the faulty ignition.Chrysler claims this will make sure that the engine and all other electrical power is functioning appropriately. The front airbags are not affected by this issue. Fortunately, Chrysler states that it's unaware of any injuries or deaths related to these faulty ignition switches. It's simply doing the right thing in taking absolutely no chances here; something GM should have done over a decade ago.
