A MAZDA2 COUPE WOULD WORK BUT ONLY IF GIVEN THE SPEED TREATMENT

The Mazda2 sedan was just revealed last week and already there are some wondering whether the compact could work as a coupe alongside the already released hatchback. Rendering artist Theophilus Chin has just contributed his vision of what a production-spec coupe could look like. His other recent work was a Mazda2 wagon, which didn’t garner all that much interest. However, the new 2 looks particularly good without its rear doors. In fact, we think it looks good enough for it to be given the MazdaSpeed treatment.Imagine if it were given the new MX-5 Miata’s 2.0-liter SkyActiv four paired to a six-speed manual. Throw in some additional body work like side sills, rear spoiler, and beefier wheels and things are looking even better. However, the likelihood of a Mazda2 coupe, let alone a MazdaSpeed2 coupe, isn’t very realistic. Small coupes don’t sell very well these days. So here’s hoping the Mazda2 hatch is given the Speed treatment. Consider it a Ford Fiesta fighter.
